2nd Agriprods Forum

25th November 2008

Bishopsgate and Chancery Room
Andaz Hotel, Liverpool Street EC1
(Formerly Great Eastern Hotel)

Registration - 9am
Presentations beginning at 9.30am

Three very interesting companies are presenting at our 2nd Agriprods Forum interspersed with managers of funds specialising in this sector. The first of these is PureCircle, an AIM listed company based in Kuala Lumpur and run by a Russian, Magomet Malsagov. PureCircle has developed a method of naturally extracting Reb-A from the stevia (stevia rebaudiana) plant which is native to Paraguay. There are several related substances that can be derived from the stevia plant, but the best tasting, purest and sweetest of all of them is Rebaudioside-A which produces a substance tasting very similar to sugar, but  200 times sweeter, and  has a beneficial dietary effect and - best of all - no calories.

In July long-term contracts were signed with PepsiCo and Whole Earth Sweetener Company for the supply of high purity Reb-A for use in beverages and tabletop sweeteners worldwide under the PureVia™ brand. In addition, PepsiCo and Whole Earth will grant PureCircle an exclusive license to market Reb-A under the PureVia™ brand in certain categories where it will be entitled to all profits. Crucial to this whole deal was the ability of Pure Circle to deliver high quality, consistently-pure Reb-A in the amounts required by such customers worldwide.

Another presenter will be Sunkar Resources which has a phosphorous rock deposit totalling 800 million tonnes which should give it a mine life of just less than 60 years. The deposit is close to surface, so will be cheap to mine and it is close to the farmers of Russia, India and China so demand will be strong. A large-scale, low cost phosphate fertiliser manufacturing operation producing up to 1.76 million tonnes of d-ammonium phosphate  per year is envisaged as sulphuric acid and ammonia are available from nearby oil and gas operations. In the meantime the company may generate cash flow by trucking the rock to a suitable plant in Uzbekistan or Russia for upgrading.

Our third  company will be Energem Resources which is an African focussed  company involved in biofuels, oil and related sectors including logistics and supply to the mining industry in South and Central Africa and development of an up-stream oil exploration asset. The interim results to end June showed a further advance in profits with help from the sale of a 20 % interest in the refined fuel product tank farm and distribution facility in Nigeria to Glencore and improved performance from the Kisumu ethanol plant in Kenya. It has also acquired a 40% interest in Stieglers Gorge Hydro-Electric project in Tanzania and continues to develop its 70% owned jatropha based bio-fuel activities in Mozambique. Energem is actively pursing additional land both in Mozambique and other African countries for growing jatropha.

Fund Managers presenting:

  • Susan Payne - Emergent Asset Management
  • Richard Lockwood - New City Investment Managers (CQS)
  • Chris Armitage - FourWinds Capital Management

Rivington Street are proud to support Children's Society

The mission of the Children's Society is to make childhood better for all children in the UK. Their national network of children's centres and projects delivers specialist services for children who face danger or disadvantage in their daily lives.

The Children's Society direct action supports children in trouble with the law, guiding them away from a cycle of crime and custody. They work with children who feel forced to run away from home or care, protecting them from abuse, crime and prostitution on the streets. They aim to ensure that disabled children are protected and given the choices that other children enjoy, also helping refugee children rebuild their lives in new communities, surrounded and supported by friends.

The Children's Society research influences the thinking of everyone, from people like you and me to politicians and decision makers about how to create real change. Their campaigning forces institutions, government bodies and local authorities to take action that makes childhood better for all children.

The Children's Society 2008 event aims to raise funds to support the numerous initiatives undertaken to help every child in the UK. Three's A Crowd is committed to supporting this worthy cause by producing this fantastic A-list fund raising event.

‘When I left Afghanistan and came to this country I was on my own. I lived with my uncle. He was very mean. He didn't give me good food and he was always angry. I went into care but kept being passed on to different social workers and I started missing school. I was scared and lonely. Once I even ran away. A lady from The Children's Society project in Sheffield listened to me. She understood how I felt. In the end she found me good foster parents and now I go to school again.'

56th Minesite Mining Forum
Tuesday 9th December 2008

Bishopsgate and Chancery Rooms
Andaz Hotel, Liverpool Street EC1
(Formerly Great Eastern Hotel)

Registration - 9am
Presentations beginning at 9.30am

It may come as a surprise to those who have wrapped themselves in a pall of misery under current market conditions to read that  more than half the companies who presented at our  55th Minesite Mining Forum last week have seen their prices rise subsequently. Six companies presented, as usual, to a full house with standing room only at the back. One of these companies, Hampton Mining, has not even listed yet which says something for the gutsy nature of Bill Etheridge who says he will choose his moment to bring his well financed assets in Chile and Peru to the market.

That leaves five companies of which Scotgold, which is listed in Australia, but has its assets in Scotland, virtually unmoved on the week. Top of the pops was Rambler Metals & Mining, listed on AIM and the TSX, with an advance of 14.3 per cent to 12p. This company has announced excellent drilling results from its Ming mine project  which should be in production in mid 2010. Next up was Kiwara, where Colin Bird gave a very upbeat presentation about its advanced Kalumbila project in Zambia and the recent drilling results at the Kawako nickel project. Its  shares advanced 9.8 per cent to 22.50p.

Oslo listed London Mining could hardly fail in these circumstances as it is just paying back £2 per share to its shareholders after selling its Brazilian iron ore assets in Brazil to ArcelorMittal for US$810 million. It still has plenty more iron ore assets elsewhere in the world and its shares rose 4.4 per cent  off to NOK 28.50, but this still leaves its shares at a discount to cash. The  conclusion has to be that investors in London already appreciate that bottom fishing pays off after such a swift fall in markets  and they are ready to chance their arms with companies in a position to make positive presentations. Bearing this in mind investors should already be looking forward to our Christmas mining forum on 9th December as we have more treats in store.
